The Forklift Ticket (LF) and Elevated Work Platform (WP) Plus the Fire Warden Tickets are 3 Quick and Cheap Courses that will add Strength to your Mining Resume. Nearly all Mining Work is Heavy Components so a Forklift Ticket (TLILIC0003) is an Absolute Necessity and Required for almost every Mine Site Role. Although its not a difficult Course to Qualify there is an element of Risk so this Certification comes with High Risk Work Licence Issued by SafeWork Australia and runs about 2-3 Days for beginners or One Day for Upgraders. Cost is around $300 to $400 and is Absolutely Essential for Warehouse Store Persons and anyone moving Palletised Freight around a Mine Camp or Lay-Down Yard. The Ticket called EWP (TLILIC0005) covers boom lifts over 11 metres and is required for Maintenance Crews Accessing Conveyors, Silos, and Structural Steel. This is a Full Day Course and costs about $250 to $400. Fire Warden training (PUAWER008B and related units) covers Emergency Evacuation Procedures, use of Fire Extinguishers on different fire classes, Muster point Management, and Post-incident reporting. It will cost around $180 to $250 and rotates through most site teams. How to get your Fire Warden / Elevated Work Platform / Forklift
Forklift (TLILIC0003 Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck) is a nationally recognised High Risk Work Licence. The course runs two to three days for beginners or a single upgrade day for experienced operators, and includes theory (load stability, weight limits, tyre types, mast operation, exclusion zones, pedestrian interaction, ramp operation) plus practical assessment (pre-start inspection, pick-up and place with pallets at height, tight turning, stacking, load restraint). Cost $300–$400 plus a state HRWL issue fee ($70–$120). Elevated Work Platform (TLILIC0005 Licence to Operate a Boom-Type EWP with a boom length of 11 metres or more) is a one-day course covering boom mechanics, safe operating envelopes, wind loadings, emergency descent, ground assessment, and rescue procedures; cost $250–$400 plus HRWL fee. Fire Warden (PUAWER008B Confine Small Workplace Emergencies, PUAWER005B Operate as Part of an Emergency Control Organisation) is a half-day or full-day non-HRWL certificate covering evacuation procedures, muster point management, fire classes (A wood/paper, B liquids, C gases, D metals, E electrical, F cooking oils), extinguisher operation (water, foam, CO2, dry powder, wet chemical), and post-incident reporting; cost $180–$250. Neither Fire Warden nor EWP under 11m require a state-issued HRWL — a Statement of Attainment alone is legally sufficient — but forklift always requires HRWL. All three are stackable: many RTOs run a two-day combined Forklift + EWP package for around $600.
